Custom Magic 8 Ball Answer Generator
The hardest part of ordering a custom Magic 8 Ball isn't the logo. It's the twenty answers. People send us their artwork within an hour and then go quiet for a week because they're staring at a blank list. So we built an answer generator and, honestly, we spend just as much time helping customers edit their lists by email. Either way, you don't have to figure this out alone.
Here's how the whole thing works, plus the stuff we've learned from writing a few thousand of these.
What the generator actually does
You tell it who you are and what the ball is for — a trade show booth, a sales kickoff, a bachelorette party, a clinic waiting room — and it gives you a full set of twenty answers written in that tone. You can regenerate individual lines you don't like, swap in your own, and rearrange the order. Nothing is locked until you approve the proof.
It's a starting point, not a verdict. Most people keep about half of what it suggests and rewrite the rest in their own voice, which is exactly what we'd hope for.
The 19-character rule
Each answer can be up to 19 characters, spaces included. That's the physical limit of the die inside the ball, not a rule we invented to be difficult. "Ask again later" is 15. "Absolutely, go now" is 18. "Our team will get back to you shortly" is not happening.
Short lines also read better through the little window. If a line is tight, cut articles first — "Sign the deal" beats "You should sign the deal" every time.
Why twenty and not twelve
There are twenty faces on the die, so you get twenty answers. You can repeat a line if you want certain outcomes to come up more often — a few customers running prize giveaways deliberately load the die with three or four "Come see us at booth 412" style answers so the message lands more often. That's allowed and it costs nothing extra.
Writing answers people actually enjoy
A good set has a rhythm to it. We usually suggest something like ten positive, five neutral or evasive, and five playful negatives. All-positive sets get boring fast, and all-negative sets make people put the ball down. The fun is in the uncertainty.
- Keep your brand in a few lines, not all twenty. Two or three mentions feel clever. Twenty feels like an ad, and people stop shaking it.
- Use words your team already says. Inside jokes and internal shorthand land harder than polished marketing copy.
- Read them out loud. Anything you'd feel awkward saying to a stranger at a booth should go.
- Check for anything that could sting. "You're fired" is funny until someone in a nervous room shakes it.
A few sets that work well
For trade shows: mix classic fortune-teller lines with two or three that push people toward your booth or a demo. For recruiting events: keep it warm and encouraging. For internal team gifts: lean into the inside jokes. For weddings and parties: the more specific to the couple, the better the photos people take of it.
From your list to a finished ball
- Send us your twenty answers and your logo — a vector file is best, but we'll work with what you have.
- We put together a free artwork proof showing the logo placement and the full answer list.
- You mark up anything you want changed. Revisions are free and we'd rather do five rounds than ship something wrong.
- Once you approve it, production runs 15 days.
- Total time from approval to your door is usually 20 days, and shipping within the USA is free.
Minimum order is 100 units, and that's the same for every size we make. Pricing starts at $6.99 per unit at 100 pieces ($699) and drops as the quantity goes up — $5.85 at 300+ ($1,755), $4.90 at 500+ ($2,450), and $4.20 at 1000+ ($4,200). If you want to hold one in your hand before committing, a single sample is $1.00.
If you change your mind
We offer 90-day free returns. It rarely comes up, because the proof stage catches almost everything, but it's there and we honor it without a runaround. Send us your draft answers whenever you're ready — even if it's only six of them and a rough idea. We'll help you finish the list.
